Nicole Hotson is the owner and lead therapist at Hope Child Therapy located in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Nicole was born and raised in Thunder Bay and is a Status First Nations person. Nicole has worked in the mental health field for over 19 years. Nicole’s past employment includes; children’s mental health treatment at Dilico Ojibway Child & Family Services, adult addictions and family violence treatment at the Thunder Bay Indian Friendship Centre, and over 14 years of children’s mental health counselling at Children’s Centre Thunder Bay as both a Social Worker and Certified Play Therapist.

 

Nicole graduated from Lakehead University with an Honors Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Honors Bachelor of Social Work, and Masters of Social Work. Nicole is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (www.ocswssw.org). Nicole is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (www.oasw.org).

 

Nicole is a Certified Play Therapist with the Canadian Association for Child & Play Therapy. Nicole completed Level 1, 2 & 3 of the Play Certificate Program in Toronto through the Canadian Association for Child & Play Therapy. Nicole received over 150 hours of play therapy supervision and completed over 500 practicum hours to receive her Certification. Nicole’s play therapy certificate coursework included: Understanding Trauma, Attachment Theory & Therapy, Brain Research & Child Development, Filial Therapy, Theraplay, Puppetry & Storytelling, Sandtray Therapy, Art Therapy, Treating Disruptive Behaviour Problems, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Treating Anxious Children, Treating Sexually Abused Children, Treating Children with Sexual Behaviour Problems, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Treating Bereaved Children & Treating Children of Separation/Divorce.
